Stark Parks Board Meets in N Canton
Stark Parks Board to Meet in N. Canton August 2nd
The monthly meeting of the Stark County Board of Park Commissioners will be at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 2, in the North Canton City Council Chambers on N. Main Street. The public is encouraged to attend and may address Commissioners at the beginning of the meeting.
The meeting follows on the heels of opening celebrations June 2 of the Hoover Trail in North Canton and the Middle Branch Trail in Plain Township. The two trails connect at the corner of Market Avenue and Easton.
Members of the Park Commission include H. Steven Poulos, President, of Plain Township; Faye Heston of Hills & Dales, Kim Miller of Magnolia, Ed Moody of Louisville, and Andy Hayden of Canton.
Park Commissioners have placed a one-mill levy on the November 2012 General Election ballot. The proposed one-mill levy request will allow the district to continue maintaining, operating and improving existing parks and trails for public health, recreation, and education; protecting water quality; preserving natural areas and wildlife habitats; preserving open space for future generations; and providing nature programs for the benefit of Stark County citizens.
Stark Parks includes 13 parks, 4 lakes, approximately 80 miles of hiking, biking, and equestrian trails. The district estimates that 85% of county residents have direct access to county park facilities within three miles or less from their residence.
