Trail Meeting
North Canton?s Hoover Park Trail north of the city?s ball fields may get a new boardwalk bridge if the city is successful in its pending application for a Recreational Trail Fund (RTF) grant with Ohio?s Dept. of Natural Resources. The grant application is due Feb. 1, and Council will address the issue at its Jan. 11 meeting. A public comment session will take place prior to the Council meeting at 6:45 p.m. The public also may send comments to the City Engineer at jbenekos@northcantonohio.com or by mail to City Engineer, 145 N. Main St., N Canton 44720 by Jan. 22. The popular recreational trail is intersected by the West Branch of the Nimishillen Creek. The proposed boardwalk would span the creek and its adjacent flood plain, creating a circular loop trail. The grant would reimburse the city for up to 80% of the cost of installing the bridge. Use of volunteer labor to install the bridge is anticipated. The Hoover Park Trail is part of the Stark County Trail and Greenway System, and the Stark County Park District will be helping with construction and providing volunteers for the project.
